2008's BEST And WORST

As the year ends, almost every medium of communication especially in the world of print media and the world wide web in the universe comes up with its annual list of the best and the worst. Be it in politics, fashion, people, music, etc. and etc.

This year is no exception.

So much stuff has happened.
Some are wonderful, some are bad.
Some are disappointing, may we learn something from it.
Some are inspiring, may it continue to make us a better individual.
Good or bad, it is still worthy to be noted and remembered.

CHARING!

To honor the year 2008, let me do a recap of what I consider the best and worst that happened this year. You may disagree or agree with me, the more important thing is that I don’t care.

Mwahahaha! Just kidding.

At syempre, dahil mahilig akong kumain unahin na natin ang…..

The BEST in FOOD

Eating Healthy – More and more restaurants and even fastfood chains are putting ‘healthier’ options in their menus for their patrons. Vegetarians have ‘easier’ access to establishments that cater to their kind of diet. Ready to serve green salads are also available in groceries, neatly placed in plastic containers complete with your choice of dressing.

The WORST in FOOD

Melamine – Gosh. My bestfriend KC cannot eat chocolates for a whole month because of fear.

The BEST in TELEVISION

Writers’ Strike Is Over – The Golden Globes was not able to show the usual awards night due to the writers’ strike. Buti na lang at naayos ang lahat just days before the Oscars. Now we can go back to enjoying our favourite tv shows Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, and many more with a relaxed mind knowing that the writers’ of these shows are ‘well-compensated’.

The WORST in TELEVISION

Reality Shows, Not! – ‘Scripted’ reality tv shows. The Hills, The Real Housewives Of…, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, my gosh the list goes on. Sana kainin ng lupa si Spencer Pratt at Heidi Montag. On the other hand, American Idol’s idea of entertaining is to humiliate people. They’ve done it for the past 7 seasons and they’re still doing it. Hay naku. Nakakasawa na. But then again, some people’s dreams just really needed to be crushed.

The BEST in MUSIC

Filipino Artists Gone Global – Charice Pempengco and Arnel Pineda. Whenever you see them perform before a foreign audience and getting an overwhelming applause or standing ovation, you feel very proud of the Filipino’s world-class talent.

The WORST in MUSIC

Covers Gone Nasty – Have you heard Rihanna’s Umbrella in 48,000 languages? What about Flo Rida’s Low in Bisaya? Nakakaloka ha. Where have all the creative talents gone? I’m not against doing covers but do it in a right way. The point is to entertain, not make listeners barf.

The BEST in FASHION

Going Green – More and more designers are using ‘green’ fabrics and sustainable materials in their designs. Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Bottega Veneta to name a few. Local designers I’m proud to say are also doing it. Some of them are even using it to help livelihood projects of certain organizations. Rajo Laurel and the women of Payatas. Puey Quinones and the Bilibid prisoners. Eairth’s use of indigenous fabrics. I know it’s done years before but in 2008, napansin sila ng mas mahigit.

The WORST in FASHION

Counterfeit Goodies – Still is the worst. The thought of patronizing these products that according to studies are financing ‘illegal’ activities, the worst being Global Terrorism is very scary.

The BEST in MOVIES

Indies – Digitally made and independently produced films have been in the film industry for quite some time now but 2008 gave us exceptional ones. Ploning, Endo, Serbis, Tirador, and of course, The Thank You Girls.

The WORST in MOVIES

High School Musical – I’m sorry, I’m so not a fan of this ‘trilogy’. Scary soundtrack. Gives me chills. Hate me if you want to. LOL. On a positive note, Vanessa Hudgens is pretty and Zac Efron is cute.

The BEST in POLITICS

Barack Obama – His victory gave us HOPE.

The WORST in POLITICS

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her minions – She has been the worst for the past years since her presidency, she should get a hall of fame award already. Calling her the worst is an understatement.
If you want to barf uncontrollably, think of her and Joc-joc Bolante, Jess Dureza, Boy Nograles, Ben Abalos, Raul Gonzales, FG Mike, son Mikey and many more. Isali nyo na rin si former speaker De Venecia. Pati na ang mga oportunistang kakandidato sa 2010.

The BEST in ME

Blogging – What else! I started this year. I gain friends and a few enemies but more importantly I learned a LOT.

The WORST in ME

Weight Loss – Mabuti pa si Oprah may dahilan kung bakit siya tumaba ulet. Eh ako sadyang matakaw lang talaga. LOL

That’s it my friends. I hope you enjoyed what you just read.
Let us look forward to a better 2009. At sana if you plan to make resolutions, make it more realistic. I know I will. Hahaha
