Happy Thanksgiving!
Yan ay kung nasa Amerika ka.
As far as my cute ass is concerned, and if my memory serves me right, we do not celebrate 'Thanksgiving' the way the Americans do during these times of the year.
Thanksgiving in the United States is celebrated every 4th Thursday of November, while in Canada is on the first Monday of October. During these times kasi naghaharvest ang karamihan sa kanila kaya because of a good harvest they celebrate Thanksgiving. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Sa Davao, it is celebrated every August by way of Kadayawan. Dito sa Bukidnon, it's every March by way of Kaamulan. And the list goes on.
Yesterday, while I was browsing the newspaper's lifestyle section I came accross this whole page ad from a mall. It says: Celebrate Thanksgiving with [name of mall].
Teka.
Ok, marketing strategy 'to ng nasabing mall but I think it's quite inappropriate and it's sending the wrong message noh. It's anti-cultural. Or perhaps the whole page ad is for the Americans who are staying here in the country. I don't know.
Well, hindi na ako magtataka kung pati St. Patrick's Day ng mga Irish or ang Carnival sa Rio ay magiging 'event' to watch out for na rin dito sa ating bansa and make our 'own' version.
That's all.
lol
This is my life's misadventures, experiences, opinions, and judgments on facts of life and everything imaginable within my radar. I am Mel. The other Beckham. Let's talk lite. Life ain't heavy.

Roles

"I was so stupid to think that he would like me or even love me. When he said I was beautiful I never thought he meant I was just beautiful on the inside."
Why?
I know I'm beautiful on the outside (bawal magreact) pero paano na lang ang mga average-looking people (ang magreact tinamaan)?
LOL
I'm just kidding.
The first paragraph came from Betty's line from an episode of Ugly Betty, aired last night on Studio23.
Betty was referring to her new 'love interest' neighbor, Jesse, who she caught liplocking with Amanda in her apartment.
Amanda upon realising Betty's attraction to Jesse, she comforted her and made this reply:
"You're so lucky. Men fall in love with you because they just do and it's genuine. Men fall for me because I'm just beautiful and I'm not sure if it's really love."
In the end, all is well between Betty and Amanda. They've 'straightened' each other 'roles' on Jesse's life.
Sort of.
Betty and Amanda's dialogues touched me.
At the end of the day, we always play a different kind of role in a person's life. Not only in the field of love but in everything.
Iba-iba lang ang treatment sa role.
There's so many things to consider.
It's up to you kung anu-ano ang mga ito.
You can choose what role to play though. It's your call.
Just don't expect that it will follow the way you want it to go.
Oh sige, you can react na now.
Note: It wasn't the actual dialogue pero parang ganun din yung sinabi nila. =p

Renew
Last week I changed the image of my header. Actually, it wasn't me who made the change. It was my sister who did it. With my consent of course. The choice of image was hers. My instruction was just to choose something peaceful yet not boring. Her first choice was footprints which I found boring and unattractive. The header above was her next choice and I agreed. Simple yet pretty, just a little bit boring though. hahaha
Actually, I had it changed kasi tinamaan ako ng hiya.
Really.
Can you believe it? lol
Nah!
Naghahanap lang talaga ako ng better view and location and background kung saan puwede na naman akong mag-pose ng bonggang-bongga.
Maybe next month I'll do my Christmas look that will become my new header. hahaha
Baliw!
Anyway, I'm kinda tamad pa to make kuwento sa mga nangyari sa akin over the weekend. I was up for 72 hours. Etchos!
Promise, may ikukuwento ako.
Meanwhile, I forgot to greet my dear friend Edz, it was his birthday kahapon.
Happy Birthday Ereng! Sana pumayat ka na tulad ko. lol
Salamat ng marami sa humba.
=p

Reading And More
Researching nowadays is fast and easy.
Ilang pindot lang ay presto! May sagot na sa tanong mo. Yun nga lang, it's not always accurate or credible.
The world wide web is so much wider than I expected.
It wasn't always this easy.
Masuwerte nga ang mga generation ng kabataan ngayon at information is available to them with just a few clicks.
Schoolwork was a lot of work. It involves countless hours in the library. Humarap sa maalikabok na shelves, lumanghap ng molds mula sa mga lumang aklat, and even more time spent sa pagsusulat.
I love staying at libraries. In college, it was my favourite place to hangout during my freetime. I read all that I can grasp. My favourite thing to read then was Time and Asiaweek magazines kung saan may subscription ang library. Minsan pag special issue (collector's item) ay tine-take home ko ito without the knowledge of our librarian. Haha!
Very conducive tulugan. Lol
Kapag inaantok ako nuon at gusto kong matulog, I just go there, look for a stool and hide and sit in between the book shelves para makatulog. Walang iistorbo. Hihihi
One time, muntik na akong makulong sa library kasi I overslept. Buti na lang naglinis ang janitor and saw me sleeping.
Our library helped me finished school. Natulungan nya ako beyond its purpose.
I'm proud to say I have a little legacy placed in one of the shelves. Hard copies of my junior and senior thesis. And our college yearbook which I'm proud to say, I did all of the layouting.
With all the technology we have today, I just wonder if our library still look thesame as it was in my time.

Race
Amazing Race Asia season 3 has finally concluded.
Guess who won?
Team Hong Kong a.k.a. Sam and Vince a.k.a. Team Annoying!
Demmit!
Talo na naman ang Team Pinas. Geoff and Tisha might've won if they were
FASTER!
Hello! You were 4 hours ahead of Team Annoying!
Hahaha!
Anymisery, my favourite Team from Malaysia Ida and Tania a.k.a. Actress and Heiress, came in third. I just love this team. They were so in the game. Walang arte, very cowboy.
Infact, they have all the 'rights' to be maarte sana because afterall, Ida is a popular actress in Malaysia and Tania is an heiress. Enough said. Haha
Ex-Miss Universe Natalie Glebova on the other hand is the DIVA-est of all during the race. Pailin (former Miss Thailand) her partner is so kawawa from Nat's kaartehan. Just because you've got a title and a crown on your head doesn't give you the rights to be maarte. This is no longer a beauty pageant, bruha. =p
Back to the winners, team HK won because during this season, they are the MOST ANNOYING team. Sam is the queen and Vince is his prince.
Come to think of it, this season has the most annoying team.
By the way, ano ang synonym ng annoying para maiba naman. Lol
A.D. and Fuzzie from Singapore is equally disturbing. So is the other Malaysian team Henry and Bernie. Bitter much? Haha! Crying for no reason is pathetic.
Season 2 has Pamela and Vanessa and Ann and Diane, tie sa pagiging annoying. Juice ko nakakaloka ang accent nila ha. Peace!
The other Philippine team, Terri and Henry were just maingay. Haha. Bias!
Season 1 winner Zabrina and Joejer were also annoying. Kinailangan talaga nilang manalo that time. Remember their faces? Talaga.
Season 2 winner Adrian and Collin, hmmm, ayokong manlait ng gifted people but they were so desperate to win gusto ko nang iabot ang premyo sa kanila.
Meanwhile, Rovilson that time, gusto ko siyang batukan. Lol
Season 3, Geoff and Tisha is the best 'strategist' team. They remind me of Rob and Amber. Good looking pair na, magaling pa! Sa huli, talo pa rin. Hahaha!
Magkano nga ulet ang prize? USD100,000! Bonggang-bonggang shopping ang magaganap. Panalo! I'm sure bibili ng bagong heels si Sam. Hello Christian Louboutin. Si Vince? Hmmm, boring ang personality niya. =p
Kung sino man kayo, galingan nyo.
And if you're planning to apply as a contestant for the next season, DON'T!
Unless your resumé says you're an actor or a model or a celebrity. Then go go go!
Now if only I can find my perfect partner. He must know how to swim and drive, do stunts and follow directions well.
Because God knows, I don't. LOL

Revenues
Ewik, the Wandering Commuter is currently posting his 100 best movies of all time.
Ang hirap nun ha? I can imagine the pain and the time spent in 'reviewing' and 'rating' these stuff.
Yes Miranda Priestly, I said 'stuff'. =p
Dahil dun, that kinda gave me an idea of posting my favourite movies as well.
But not 100.
I'll be doing 1000.
Etchos!
Actually, dahil tamad naman talaga ako by nature and nurture and I don't have the luxury of time (and food) para mag review ng films, I will just share TEN FAVOURITE MOVIES in my lifetime.
My criteria/reasons in choosing these films in my über prestigious list is very simple.
1. Dahil gusto ko ito.
3. At dahil gustong gusto ko ito, bumili pa ako ng vcd or dvd nito, pirata man or original.
4. Dahil mahigit limang beses ko na itong napanuod in my sparest sparetime.
5. Dahil good looking ang cast.
6. Dahil mababaw lang ako and not critical.
7. Relevance to life.
Lol
It's not an all-time list. It's just based from what I have in my shelves.
Most of which was released just recently (2000 and present).
And I'm sure napanuod nyo na itong lahat kaya 'di ko na ikukuwento kung ano ang mga ito.
Here it is.
In correct order.
10. If Only (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Paul Nicholls)
9. The Devil Wears Prada (Meryll Streep, Anne Hathaway)
8. Kill Bill Vol.1 (Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu)
7. North Country (Charlize Theron, Frances Mcdormand)
6. The Craft (Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk)
5. Evita (Madonna, Antonio Banderas)
4. Sweet Home Alabama (Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas)
3. Mean Girls (Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams)
2. A Walk To Remember (Mandy Moore, Shane West)
1. To Wong Foo: Thanks For Everthing, Julie Newmar (Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes)
If you don't like my choices, I don't care. Make your own.
LOL

Robot
I was watching the weekend edition of the Today Show and they were discussing about 'high-tech ties and electronic addiction'.
I can kinda relate to what they were talking since I cannot live without my cellphone. Like maybe half of the world's population? I don't know but I'm sure I'm not alone on this 'addiction'.
The first thing I do every morning when waking up is to grab my cellphone, check messages and text. I also check my blog and my facebook and friendster on a daily basis. I browse whenever I have free time or when travelling, even if I had to do it on my mobile.
Based on what I do, I am definitely an electronic addict. Limited though because I only use my cellphone as a source.
Anyway, the show suggested some things and ways to get rid of this electronic addiction. Like switching it off every now and then, or allowing a specific time of the day to check emails etc. And the 'worst' suggestion they said was to completely get rid of your 'stuff'.
Now, how would I do that when we live in a wired world already. You have to be connected with the world noh. I'm sure even the monks at the farthest and 'remotest' mountain in Tibet is 'connected'. Hihi
Of course, electronic addiction can be controlled or minimized. It all boils down to time and gadget management.
Now, if only I could practice what I preach.
Good luck.
And yes, I'm back. Ignore my previous post. Rest is only for the sick, the screwed, the mentally unhealthy and the dead.
In this modern world, rest is an expensive luxury.

Baka bukas mag blog ulet ako. Hihi

Magpapahinga lang ako.

Reinvention
The day has come.
Yes, I'm talking about Project Runway Philippines.
Natapos na two weeks ago ang Philippine Fashion Week were the three finalists showed their wonderful collections.
Very distinct.
Philipp's was romantic.
Veejay's was modern.
And Aries' was edgy.
As you all know, I'm rooting for Veejay and he did not fail me and his millions of fans. I wanna wear all his clothes.
I think the three of them really did their best.
But there could only be one winner.
Result:
3rd place: Veejay
2nd place: Philipp
And the winner is.......
ARIES LAGAT!
Congratulations Aries!
Let's all move on. Antayin ang Season 2. Kung gusto niyong sumali, good luck!
P.S.
Nakakaloka! LOL

Repulsive
Last night was the premiere telecast of the Philippine franchise of Fear Factor.
Pinoy Fear Factor hosted by Ryan Agoncillo was shot in Argentina, with an Argentinian production. I think.
Anywhore, I wasn't able to watch the premiere because like its US counterpart, I never liked the thought of people doing ridiculous stunts and eating disgusting food as a form of fighting their fears. But based from the feedbacks of the 'gurls', e.g gorgeous male contestants, I decided to watch it tonight.
So, here are my thoughts.
Nakakatawa ang show. I was laughing maybe 60% of the time. Way better than Desperate Housewives.
The show is selling sex. What's with the camera focusing on the boobs and the bikini? It's so unfair. Hindi pinakita ang bulges ng mga lalake. Lol
And the still shots ha, ang laswa ng mga poses ng mga female contestants, pati nakabukakang 'moment' pinakita. Nakakaloka. Hahaha!
Ryan as a host is quite disappointing. Pilit na pilit, bordering on pagiging corny.
This is certainly not his finest hour. Mas drool-worthy pa siya sa Pieta. That episode where him and Jason Abalos were in their undies, gosh, orgasmic. =p
And what's with the use of Spanish (or Portuguese) in the show? Ang corny ha? May translation pa sa screen. Parang tutorial? Lol
In true 'reality show' fashion, may drama namang involved. That kargador, parang may 'special treatment' sa kanya ha. Ginawang 'madrama' ang kanyang estado sa buhay. Infernez cute siya. Hihi
By the way, pre-school teacher na pala si LJ Moreno ha?
In fairness naman sa Kapamilya channel, I think they're doing their best naman siguro to make the show better. It's just that I am not pleased. Natatawa talaga ako. As in LOL. =p
Anymisery, 2 episodes pa lang naman ang naipalabas. Who knows, bobongga din ang show.
That Ram Sagad is delish.

Raid
My brain is not working as usual.
Blame it on too much alcohol.
When I came home this morning, Manang showed me her 'ukay' finds. She was with Mommy kahapon.
Here they are:

1. a shiny one from MFG
5. made of suede pero soft
6. Dior-esque
7. Gucci-esque
9. my favourite of them all, made of ostrich leather at red pa ha. Made of wood ang handles. Inangkin ko na 'to. lol

Retribution

I have loved a king.
I travelled the 'world' for the king.
I've stayed away from our home for the king.
I dragged my friends with me, staying in the rain for a very long time, waiting in vain, just to see the king.
I was insanely obsessed.
Although I've sacrificed a lot for the king, it has paid off. The king gave me affection.
I was satisfied.
Happy.
Content.
But the king has a queen.
And I, I'm just a slut.
A slut who loved a king.
The king dumped me, he came back to the queen.
I was hurt.
He no longer kept in touch.
He's always heavily guarded.
I couldn't come close. He forgot his promises to me.
He just used me.
My heart is broken.
I've cried a river. I've gone through sleepless nights.
And now my eyes can no longer shed tears.
My heart has turned into a stone.
I will avenge myself.
The king must pay.
For all the sluts in the world.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Bhutan has crowned its new king.
King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.

I think he is cute and HOT!

Reaffirmation
Now what?
Nanalo na si Barack Obama. Masaya ang buong Illinois. Pinakamasaya si Oprah.
I am looking forward to his promise of Change.
I am confident he can do it.
Michelle Obama as first lady is phenomenal.
Ano na mangyayari kay John McCain?
Kay Sarah Palin?
Infairness, maagang nag-concede si Lolo John. Nag-congratulate na rin si Pres. Bush.
--------
Update: Hindi pala si Spike Lee yung umiyak. Nor was it Spike Jones. It was Rev. Jesse Jackson. Hihi

Restrictions
Our dear friend Unique came home last weekend from Bohol to surprise KC in his birthday.
In fairness, nasorpresa naman talaga si KC because he wasn't expecting Unique to come home on a very short notice. We were just discussing the night before kung saan kami rarampa noong undas and he felt bad kasi hindi siya makakasali sa amin, yun pala may masamang binabalak. Hihi.
Anyhorror, our previous plan of 'cemetery hopping' was ditched because of the 'Unique development'. Not to mention the city is wet as in umuulan ng buong magdamag noh. Kawawa naman ang Lanvin ko. Chos!
We just did our usual get together bonding ek-ek over a few drinks, a few songs, and a few men. =p
In fairness, hindi ako uminom ng something alcoholic. I've restricted myself from drinking alcohol until this year ends. And so far my system is alcohol-free for a month now. I think.
I remember a few years ago during our lasengga days, we would always leave a bar na pasuray-suray na sa daan sa kalasingan.
We would always be one of the last customers to leave the place, a few minutes before sumilip si haring araw sa kalangitan.
Sometimes whenever I would report to work on a Monday, medyo lasing pa ako or may hangover. Same with KC, Unique and a former friend who we've excommunicated for morphing into a snake whenever we turn our backs. Lol
But we've changed now. For the better. We're no longer thesame lasengga people. Ngayon konting shot lang tinatamaan na kami.
We've learned to drink socially.
But if there's an invitation for a round of drinks we'll never say no.
We'll never turn our backs on some thing that help spice up our (sex) lives.
Or not.
Basta masarap maglasing!
LOL

Reservations
Belated Happy Halloween.
For the first time in 48,000 years I picked up and read the first section of our daily broadsheet, PDI.
Wala lang. Na bore lang ako kanina sa sasakyan while waiting for something and someone.
I came accross this column 'Reveille' on the Opinion section of the said broadsheet. The columnist is Ramon J. Farolan, who according to my boss, is a former general.
The article was entitled 'Men of the ROTC'. In this article, he stressed out the importance of ROTC in the academe and how it produced leaders and personalities, especially in politics and the military, on a global setting pa. Those that contributed a lot in the past and present society.
At the end of his column, Gen. Farolan called for a review in the ROTC program. In short, gusto niyang ibalik sa pagiging compulsory ang naturang course sa tertiary level students particularly the male population, like before.
So, ano bang masasabi ko dun?
Hell NO!
As far as my micro mini memory can remember, the one event that triggered the 'editing' of the ROTC program ay dahil sa isang matapang na estudyante na nagbulgar ng katiwalian sa kanilang ROTC kabilang ang mga leaders nito na naging sanhi ng kanyang untimely death.
Pinatay ng mga sangkot sa corruption.
--------
When I was in college, ROTC then was a compulsory course. Unfortunately, the male population of our school then was depleting, relevant to the decreasing demand of nurses before. So dahil konti lang kaming kumuha ng ROTC, our school decided to 'link' us as a separate platoon but in a different school.
To make the story short, sa ibang school ako kumuha ng ROTC. I had my uniform made to order, bumili ng combat boots, feeling ko ako si Cammy ng Street Fighter.
I was already in my third or fourth Sunday attendance when the commandant paid a visit in our school and gathered us, freshies.
He told us how lucky we were to be a part of his excellent 'squad'. As much as he wanted us to be under his wing, naaawa daw siya sa amin because we're giving so much effort just to attend the whole day course every Sunday. And he's much willing to help us in lessening our burden.
And then he made an offer.
We need not report na raw every Sunday for our ROTC, siya na ang bahala sa amin at the end of the semester. Our final grade will be 1.5, and the best thing is that hindi na kami magpapagod.
But, for a price. Since we were studying in a much expensive school compared to the one we're taking our ROTC course, the price tag is
P3,500.00/sem.
Nakakaloka noh?
To think this course should teach us something about respect, dignity, courage and love of country pero how could I do such thing when in the first place eh questionable na ang pagkatao ng tao na siya sanang tuturo sa amin nito.
--------
Ewan ko lang talaga. I know there are more noble people in the military but people like my former commandant are thesame reasons why I am so not in favor in reviving the old course.
I was tempted to avail of the 'promo'.
I didn't have much choice then.
I'm a freshman. Fresh from high school. Underage. Walang kakilala. Mahinhin pa. Payatot. As in Kate Moss payatot. =p
My class schedule's from Monday to Saturday. And Sunday ang ROTC namin. It was stressful and fearful and emotionally and physically draining.
The ROTC is not for me. It's not for everybody. Just like wearing 6inches high heels, the ROTC is for those 'specially equipped' individuals only.
I just think that hindi naman siguro kailangan icompulsory ang ROTC to answer Gen. Farolan's questions. If excellent leaders are what he's worrying na 'might've been lost' due to absence of the said course, maybe it's also time for him to look beyond his field of expertise and idea of sourcing out leaders.
