Our driver, Buboy, came up to me yesterday with a story about his missing ‘relos’ (timepiece).
According to him, his beloved ‘relos’ was an heirloom piece. A family treasure given to him by his grandfather that’s why he was so angry and worried when found out it was missing.
He searched everywhere, sa bahay, opisina, sasakyan, but to no avail.
Eventually, he was advised by his wife to seek the help of the local ‘manghuhula’ to know the exact whereabouts of the said missing object.
In desperation, he went the following day to the barrio ‘manghuhula’ who happens to be a ‘manggagamot’ of bizaare and ‘medically incurable’ diseases too.
The place was packed with ‘devotees’ and ‘patients’ since it was a Friday. A day where ‘powers’ are said to be strong and most effective.
Anyway, when it was Buboy’s turn, he was asked to sit in front of a makeshift altar and Mang Kepweng (not his real name), the quack, then placed his palm in Buboy’s forehead and made a little incantation.
Buboy told him his predicament and how important it is for him to find that missing ‘relos’.
Mang Kepweng made some chantings, yelling and whispering. Mind you, in a different language. Buboy presumed it was latin.
After a few minutes, Mang Kepweng stopped. Took a glass of water. Drank it like he was so thirsty from a day long walk in a desert.
Napagod daw si Mang Kepweng.
Mahirap daw kasi ang ginawa niyang ‘pagtuklas’ kung nasaan ang nawawalang relos.
He told Buboy,
“Dong, wala na. Di nato nimo hikit-an. Gisul-ob na gyud sa tawong nangawat ang imong relos!”
Translation: “Dong, wala na. Hindi mo na yun makikita. Suot na ng taong nagnakaw ang iyong nawawalang relos!”
Our driver was stunned by Mang Kepweng’s revelation replied,
“Ha! Pag-sure baya nong. Gi-unsa man niya pagsul-ob nga ang akong relos nga nawala kay pang-bungbong ra man to!"
Translation: “Ha! Siguraduhin mo lang Manong. Paano niya masusuot ang nawawala kong relos eh wall clock yun!”
Busted!
That’s all.
Hahaha!
