For Your Eyes Only

I realised, the one thing that I can’t live without on a daily basis is my eyeglasses. I’m practically blind kasi without them. I can’t see a thing that’s a few feet away from me because I’m nearsighted.

I was watching SATC for the 48,000th time and the scene where Carrie ‘borrowed’ Big’s eyeglasses reminded me of the one I’m currently wearing and decided that I’m gonna check a new one this weekend.



Luma na kasi my Burberry eyeglasses. It’s like 7 years old but I’m actually glad that it lasted this long compared to the other brands that I’ve worned in the past na hindi man lang umabot ng isang taon. I have two na naputol ang isang ‘leg’. Meron din nabasag dahil nahigaan ko. Yung isa kinain ng kalawang (I thought stainless steel pero hindi pala). And my favourite pair (a Marc Jacobs) dahil transparent ang frame nito and I get compliments wearing it, naisama dun sa aking bag nung naholdap ako a few years ago.

I actually have 5 eyeglasses, all of them bought on sale mostly 50% off the original price. They’re not generic brands but none of them is above P5000 because I bought them on special sale occasions like Yearend Sale, Back to School Sale, Christmas Sale and Araw ng Dabaw Sale.

Tip: Huwag mahiyang tumawad ng presyo because employees and optometrists have personal discounts and even when the store is not on sale, you can still have as much as 20% off from the price tag.

Anyway, I have this titanium one I bought early last year. It is super lightweight and it’s been my favourite ever since. Yun nga lang dahil halos araw-araw kong suot ay nag-chip na ang gold details sa gilid kaya mukhang dumaan na ito sa skin peeling. Malapit nang mag-retiro ang isang ‘to any monument.

May konting OCD rin ako when it comes to wearing eyeglasses. I always wipe the lens and isinusuot ko lang ‘to when I’m totally and 100% sure na clear na ang lens of any markings and ‘impurities’. I’m sure yung ibang nagbabasa diyan can totally relate sa ugaling ‘to. Nakakainis nga ‘di ba when somebody makes hiram your salamin para maisuot and ma-check nila if bagay din ba sa kanila ang mag-salamin or just to check if yung ‘grade’ ng mata mo ay similar sa kanila.

Tapos when they get a hold of your eyeglasses eh doon nakahawak sa lens which makes me hold my breath dahil alam kong mamarka doon ang kanilang fingerprints. Inis talaga ako dun kasi lilinisin ko na naman ang lens ng eyeglasses. When I can’t get a hold of a flanella para ipunas, I oftentimes resort to wiping it in my t-shirt na lang. Siyempre, it’s not that perfectly linis like before kaya medyo nakaka-ruin din ito ng good mood. Hahaha!
