Taxi Service

I have been to three of the country’s metropolitan cities, Manila, Cebu and Davao and I’m proud to say that the best taxi drivers are from home, Davao City.

Cebu City cab drivers comes in close second and the worst cab drivers are the ones from Metro Manila.

Hands down. Or should I say hands up?

Bakit ko nasabi yun? Well, siyempre from experience.

Hindi na nire-renew ng local government ang lisensiya and rehistro ng mga taxi that do not have aircondition and those older taxis.
Taxi drivers in Davao will give you the exact change up to the last centavo without you asking for your change unless you insist that they keep it na lang as a tip.
They don’t make chika either unless you started to converse with them.
When you arrive at the airport, cabs are located near the exit and they use their meters kahit malayo pa ang destination mo as long as it’s within the city. Kahit sa Toril pa yan (the farthest barangay in Davao).

Cebu cab drivers aren’t that bad either. They’ll take you wherever you want to go kahit pabalik-balik at pabago-bago pa ang destination niyo. No complaints. Well at least sa experiences namin everytime we’re in Cebu. They also give exact change up to the last centavo. The only chaka thing we experienced was when we came back to the resort where we were staying from a night out in the city. Both taxis na sinakyan namin (we were in two groups) charged us with a hefty fare which was double the amount shown in the meter.

Manila cab drivers are the worst. Based from our experience, 4 out of 5 are either mandurugas, manloloko ng kapwa tao at walang respeto.

Ang taxi na sinakyan ko from the airport pagdating sa hotel ay mukhang walang planong ibigay ang sukli ko. The fare was almost P200 and I gave him P500 dahil wala akong hundreds.

Second time, we were on our way to Trinoma and the meter was only less than P40. The taxi driver knew we were tagabukid because nag-usap kami ng friend ko sa loob. My friend gave him P40 but the driver insisted on a P50 fare because yun daw ang flat rate ng mga taxi sa Maynila. Sinigawan ko nga ng expletives and I name-dropped a popular muslim family name as my apelyido . Natakot yata ang gago. No, not the Ampatuans. Hahaha!

Third time, we rode a taxi outside the hotel in Makati Ave. where we were staying. My friend wanted to go somewhere in Pasay kaya we hailed a cab. When we told the driver of our destination, he told us we pay him P300 instead of using the meter because malayo daw ang pupuntahan namin. Haller?

Nyahaha!

Anyway, medyo umaambon kaya nagmadali kaming pumara ng taxi. When we were inside the cab, the driver asked kung saan kami, I told him diyan lang sa Makati Ave. Aba, pinapababa kami dahil papunta daw siyang Quezon City. Ganun? Kalokah!

And that my friends are the reasons why I hate going to Manila.

Ironically, two of these mandurugas na taxi drivers are from the same operator. Perhaps they needed to educate their drivers more? And yes, I already called their operator's attention.

Taxi drivers in Manila should learn their lessons.

I feel happy, very happy every time I see a taxi driver being caught by police officers for not using their taxi meters or refusing passengers.

Davao has the best drivers so far kasi binibigay nila ang tamang sukli pag nagbayad ka. Even to the last peso eh sinosoli. Then next is Cebu kasi yung iba eh nagpapadagdag kahit dagdag ng P10-20.
